What happened
Chance Kornuth spent August 31 and September 1 doing something most players would need a week to recover from just watching: final-tabling both Americas Cardroom Mystery Bounty Venom events at the same time. There was the $2,650 buy-in NLH Venom, carrying a $12 million guarantee across 4,792 entries, and the $2,650 PLO Venom, carrying a $3 million guarantee across 1,238 entries, and Kornuth was seated at both simultaneously like a man who had forgotten the concept of enough. In the NLH event his pocket nines ran into an opponent's ace-four, the board rolled out ace-five-four-eight-six for aces up, and he was out in 7th for a merely respectable $131,395. In the PLO event he actually made it heads-up for the title, only for his ace-queen-jack-two to fall to eventual champion 'ImWinninAnyway's kings full on a runout of ace-nine-nine-king-four, finishing second for $182,924. Add it up and Kornuth walked away with $314,319 across two different seven-figure-guarantee final tables and zero trophies. Call that the best consolation prize in poker, or the cruelest arithmetic, depending on his mood. 'Deltoid88' won the NLH event outright for $865,868.
Why it matters
Playing two different final tables with a combined $15 million guarantee at the same time is a logistical feat most players never attempt, let alone pull off twice in the same 48 hours. Kornuth cashed for over $300,000 and still walks away as the runner-up story in both events, which says more about how deep and well-attended these online series have gotten than it does about his week.
