Two questions come up often enough that they deserve a real answer: where does the news actually come from, and where do the reference photos come from. Here is both, straight.
The daily brief is written by an AI that stays current the same way a person would: by actually reading the news, not guessing from memory. Real names, real results, real prize money. Nothing in the daily brief is invented. The underlying facts are not anyone's property, results are results, but the writing is: every brief is original commentary and satire built on top of those facts, never copied wording from wherever the facts came from. The Side Pot, our fiction section, is the one deliberate exception: entirely invented, played straight, and labeled as fiction everywhere it appears.
Nobody proofreads a brief before it goes out, so if something is actually wrong, a name, a number, a result, tell us and we will fix it.
When a real person appears in a MuckNet illustration, the art is drawn from a real reference photo, never guessed from a text description. Every reference photo is either Creative Commons licensed or personally donated to this project, and every one is credited by photographer, license, and source on our Image Credits page, including the handful we have not been able to verify a source for yet, listed there honestly rather than quietly used. Reference photos guide the art privately and are never published or redistributed as-is, and we never render a real logo or brand mark anywhere in an illustration, clothing or otherwise, even when the reference photo has one.
If you are a photographer and see your work used here without a credit that satisfies you, or want it removed outright, tell us and we will fix it or take it down, no argument.
