Jacks are great if the pot stays small and you hate money. Every big pot you play with them is a slow-motion obituary.
You should fold Jacks almost always. To be more specific, you should fold Jacks:
- To a 4-bet from a guy who hasn’t spoken in 3 hours. That’s not a bluff, that’s AA with social anxiety.
- When the flop is K-Q-8 and he insta-bets like he’s late for parole. Spoiler: you’re not ahead. You’re just stubborn.
- When you’re out of position, deep stacked, and still think “I might be good here.” You’re not. You’re dead and donating.
Jacks are great until the pot gets big. Then they become what they truly are: The last good decision before a series of very bad ones.
Honestly? Just fold Jacks whenever your gut says “maybe they’re good.” That’s all there is to it.
